Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) Releases Updated Publication, Includes AlumiConn®
June 29, 2011 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
O’FALLON, MO – King Innovation’s AlumiConn® Aluminum to Copper Lug has been included in the latest version of the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) Publication No. 516 as an approved long term-repair method for aluminum wiring.
In April of this year, members of the Commission decided in a unanimous vote that the AlumiConn lug would be added to their list of products approved for aluminum wiring repairs. AlumiConn meets the agency’s standards in preventing fire hazards caused by Aluminum wiring. Now, the updated version of the CPSC Publication No. 516 has been released, and includes the approval of King Innovation’s AlumiConn connector. To view a copy of the updated publication, click here.
One thing that sets the AlumiConn lug apart from other aluminum wiring repair methods such as crimping and complete re-wire is cost. AlumiConn is by far the most cost effective solution approved by the CPSC. As a result, AlumiConn continues to be the preferred method of repair by Electricians and homeowners alike.
Manufactured in O’Fallon, MO by King Innovation, AlumiConn is a lug style wire connector designed as a permanent repair for aluminum wiring in homes and commercial buildings. As an aluminum wire is inserted into the AlumiConn lug, it is coated with a thin layer of silicone grease to provide resistance from oxidation. When the set screw is tightened down it compresses the surface of the wire, which breaks up any surface oxides and provides a secure mechanical connection. In addition, the AlumiConn connector itself is constructed using tin plated aluminum, which relieves any issues related to dissimilar metals. AlumiConn is UL Listed to meet US and Canadian specifications, declared dependable and economical by independent tests, and now approved by the CPSC.

Know the Code White Paper Now Available
May 16, 2011-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
O’FALLON, MO – King Innovation® has released a FREE informational white paper to help educate Electricians, Distributors and Electrical Inspectors of changes in the National Electric Code. Specifically, this “Know the Code” document instructs industry professionals on how to remain within the code requirements when working in wet and damp locations. Find it HERE.
The free “Know the Code” document provides a solid answer to the question “what is a wet location” and “what should I do when I come across a damp location.” It ensures that professionals who follow the 2008 and 2011 code will have all the information and tools they need to pass inspection. For example, the NEC outlines a damp location as an exterior location that is only partially protected, or an interior location that is subject to moderate degrees of moisture. King Innovation’s “Know the Code” clarifies that, by code, a wet location is any location that is underground, in concrete slabs, unprotected, exposed to weather, etc.
Through extensive research into the 2008 and 2011 NEC Handbook, it has been determined that when making a splice in a wet or damp location it is not suggested but required that a UL 486D Listed splicing method be used. The goal of “Know the Code” is to provide information to the industry, keeping professionals informed of all requirements in order to reduce the risk of electric shock, corrosion, and product failures. Knowing and following these requirements helps keep employees safe on the job.
This paper is a simple document that is easy to read, but the valuable information contained could save hours of labor fixing an incorrect or failed job! It’s something that no electrical industry professional should be without. CLICK HERE to download your free copy today.

AlumiConn® Named Approved Pigtail Method by Florida State Property Insurance Company
April 11, 2011-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
O’FALLON, MO—Announced this week, state regulated private insurance companies in Northwestern Florida are refusing insurance to homeowners who have aluminum wiring. Rather than force homeowners into a total re-wire which could cost up to twenty thousand dollars, the state-owned Citizens Property Insurance Corp. has approved two types of electrical connectors: AlumiConn® and Copalum.
Several homes in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties built between 1965 and 1973 were constructed using aluminum wire, before the dangers of doing so were realized. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, homes wired with old technology aluminum wire are fifty five times more likely to have one or more connections reach Fire Hazard Conditions, hence the concern of the local insurance companies.
AlumiConn, manufactured in O’Fallon, Missouri by King Innovation® is a lug style wire connector designed as a permanent repair for aluminum wiring in homes and commercial buildings. UL Listed, CSA approved, and declared a dependable and economical solution by independent tests, AlumiConn is the solution Florida homeowners need to maintain not only their insurance, but their safety.
