King Launches New Aluminum to Copper Electrical Connector
O’FALLON, MISSOURI – King Innovation® announces the newest addition to its family of wire connectors and lugs, the AlumiConn™ Aluminum to Copper Lug. Improving safety in the area of aluminum-to-copper connections, AlumiConn provides a superior mechanical connection. Designed for small, compact spaces, AlumiConn is a one-piece, tin-plated lug featuring three separate ports which eliminate intermixing of conductors.
During the late 1960s into the mid 1970s, the U.S. housing industry used aluminum wiring in many new residential growth areas. Connections made with aluminum wiring were later deemed ineffective due to overheating at the connections between the wire and devices or at splices. Ineffective connections with aluminum wiring elevated the risk of damage to homes that could include homes being destroyed by fire.
King Innovation researched residential contractor applications for correcting these connections in today’s marketplace. The result of this research was AlumiConn, a superior method which provides an innovative mechanical connection of conductors. AlumiConn runs approximately 25°F cooler than the purple twist-on connector, while overall providing more safety to the connection.
AlumiConn provides lower temperature, lower resistance, and longer-term reliability for connections with aluminum wiring. The lug is UL Listed to meet the requirements of both U.S. and Canadian specifications.
